The Kansas Jayhawks placed a league-best 19 athletes on the first and second All-Big 12 academic teams. The 19 players is the most players for any team since the Big 12’s inception. Kansas previously set the conference record in 2010 with 17 players on the list.
First team members for Kansas include: safety Brandon Hawks, offensive lineman Dylan Admire, halfback Ryan Burton, offensive lineman Gavin Howard, halfback James Sims, snapper Justin Putoff, cornerback Tyler Patmon, offensive lineman Trevor Marrongelli and defensive lineman Shane Smith.Hawks was one of four athletes on the team with a perfect 4.0 GPA. This was Marrongelli’s fourth time to make the first team. He is the fourth Jayhawk to make the conference All-Academic team four times.
Second team members include: quarterback Michael Cummings, wide receiver Andrew Turzilli, holder Blake Jablonski, defensive end Toben Operrum, linebacker Jake Love, wide receiver Daymond Patterson, cornerback Corrigan Powell, cornerback JaCorey Shepard, and fullback Nick Sizemore.
Students who qualify for this team maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA, with those on the first team above 3.20. The second team members range from 3.00 to 3.19. There are 82 first team members this season, and 49 on the second team.
