Iowa State and Kansas square off next Saturday in Lawrence at 5:00 p.m. central time. Iowa State enters the game with a 5-5 mark, though are just 2-5 in the Big 12. The Cyclones have dropped five of seven games, after starting the season 3-0. Last week, Iowa State lost 33-7 to Texas. Kansas has lost nine straight games, including last week’s 41-34 double overtime loss to Texas Tech. Kansas has two more chances to get a conference win this season, beginning with the Cyclones on Saturday. Here is a look at Iowa State’s offense.
Cyclones starting quarterback Steele Jantz has thrown for 13 touchdowns this season and 11 interceptions. Jantz has a total of 1,543 passing yards. Jantz has the ability to break off any play on the ground. The quarterback has rushed for 206 yards. Iowa State’s leading rusher is junior back Shontrelle Johnson. Johnson has rushed 98 times for 428 yards and two touchdowns. Iowa State has a tendency to fall behind, putting more pressure on Jantz, lowering Johnson’s rushing total. Jantz’s has a couple of favorite targets on the sides in Aaron Horne and Chris Young. Horne has 36 receptions, while Young is right behind at 31.
The offense ranks 82nd in the nation through the air, averaging 216 yards per contest. Rushing the football, Iowa State is ranked 87th, averaging 138 yards. The Cyclones don’t score lots of points, only averaging 23 per game.
