Basketball Roundtable: Jeff Withey's Season Opening Performance

The No. 7 Kansas Jayhawks opened up the regular season against the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks last Friday.

Jeff Withey had the best performance out of all the Jayhawks in his 30 minutes played. Withey finished the game with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks.

The Through the Phog staff shares their thoughts on Withey’s opening night performance ad answers the question “will Withey be able to keep this up all season?”

George: I have been a big fan of Withey since he began playing as a Jayhawk. He has the potential to be a double-double guy every game. Now with Thomas Robinson gone to the NBA and a young Perry Ellis up front with him, Withey needs to perform like this every game.

Ricky: Yes and No. There will be some game where Withey has amazing games, even better than we saw against Southeast Missouri State. Then, there will be games where we might see good games, but nothing like opening night. I think early on he will play like this, but his number might take a slight hit against a team like Baylor.
