Kansas Football: A look at the Texas Tech Defense

The Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Tech Red Raiders face off on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders defense earlier on this season was ranked the best in the Big 12. In past weeks, this ranking has slipped a little due to elevated competition. Even still, the defense has a number of play-makers on it.

Defensive back Cody Davis leads the unit in total tackles with 63 on the year. The senior also leads the team in interceptions with three. Fellow secondary member, D.J. Johnson has added 53 tackles. Defensive end, Kerry Hyder is tops on the unit for sacks with a total of four, including a team-leading nine and a half tackles for loss.

The defense after enjoying a great early season, including  holding West Virginia to 14 points in a Oct. 13th shocker, have had issues the last couple weeks. A three-game slide began with a 56-53 three overtime loss to TCU, followed by a 55-24 loss to Kansas State. Last week, Texas beat the Red Raiders, 31-22 as quarterback David Ash tossed three touchdowns.

Even with the recent losses, teams on average are scoring 26 points per game against the defense. This ranks 59th in the nation.

Loss to TCU is a false statement. It is the other way.
