Here is the Through the Phog Big 12 Power Rankings, a poll that accumulates our staff’s thoughts on the best through the worst in the conference. Teams in first place get 9 points, second place receive 8 points, and so on.
This poll follows this weekend of college football.
- Kansas State (9-0, 6-0) – 18 points (2) (LW: 1)
The Wildcats defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys 44-30, but Collin Klein left in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury.
- Oklahoma (6-2, 4-1) – 16 points (LW: 2)
Oklahoma bounced back against Iowa State as Landry Jones had four touchdowns to help the Sooners win 35-20.
- Texas (7-2, 4-2) – 14 points (LW: 3)
Texas won the Battle for the Chancellor’s Spurs against Texas Tech. Texas is now on a three game winning streak while Texas Tech is on a two game losing streak.
- Oklahoma State (5-3, 3-2) – 10 points (LW: 5)
The Cowboys fought hard in their loss to Kansas State. Just like KSU, Oklahoma State’s starting quarterback left with an undisclosed injury. The back-up Clint Chelf threw for 233 yards and one touchdown.
- TCU (6-4, 3-3) – 9 points (LW: 8)
TCU pulled off a one point upset over West Virginia this week. They scored on their first drive of the overtime period to pull within one point. The Horned Frogs took a risk and converted a two-point conversion to win the game.
- Texas Tech (6-3, 3-3) – 9 points (LW: 6)
Texas Tech dropped their second straight game this week. Seth Doege threw for 329 yards and one touchdown, but it was not enough to beat the Texas Longhorns.
- West Virginia (5-3, 2-3) – 7 points (LW: 4)
The Mountaineers drop their third straight game this week. They lost by one point after TCU converted a two-point conversion in overtime to win 39-38.
- Iowa State (5-4, 2-4) – 4 points (LW: 7)
Iowa State could not stand in the way of Landry Jones and the Sooners this week. Their next Big 12 opponent will be the Texas Longhorns.
- Baylor (4-4, 1-4) – 2 points (LW: 9)
Baylor was able to get their first conference win of the season against Kansas. Nick Florence led the way for the Bears as he threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns.
- Kansas (1-8, 0-6) – 0 points (LW: 10)
Kansas’ losing ways continue as the Jayhawks lost to Baylor 41-14. James Sims still was able to hit the century mark in rushing yards for the fifth consecutive game. Kansas will take on Texas Tech next week.
