Big 12 Football Recap: Week Ten

After each weekend of Big 12 play we’ll look at how things turned out for the Big 12 conference.

This week, Texas won the battle against Texas Tech for the Chancellor’s Spurs, Oklahoma rebounded against Iowa State, the Horned Frogs upset the Mountaineers in overtime, Kansas State won a shootout against Oklahoma State even after Klein’s injury, and Baylor recorded their first conference win against Kansas.

Saturday, November 3rd

23 Texas (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) 31 @ 18 Texas Tech (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) 22 – David Ash and Mike Davis helped lead the Longhorn offense as Texas defeated Texas Tech this weekend. The Longhorns are now on a three game winning streak while the Red Raiders are on a two game losing streak. Ash threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns and Davis had a career-high 165 yards and a career-best two touchdowns. Freshman Johnathan Gray also recorded 100-yards on the ground for the second straight week. Seth Doege had a good game with 329 yards and one touchdown, but it was not enough for Texas Tech to win.

12 Oklahoma (6-2, 4-1 Big 12) 35 @ Iowa State (5-4, 2-4 Big 12) 20 – After their loss to Notre Dame last week, Oklahoma bounced back in a big way against the Iowa State Cyclones. Landry Jones threw for 405 yards and had four touchdowns. Brennan Clay racked up 157 yards and one touchdown for the Sooners on the ground. The Cyclones have now lost their 21st straight home game against the Sooners. Head coach Bob Stoop also tied Bud Wilkinson for the second-most wins in Oklahoma’s school history.

TCU (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) 39 @ 21 West Virginia (5-3, 2-3 Big 12) 38 – The Mountaineers dropped their third straight conference game against the Horned Frogs this week. Geno Smith played a good game with 260 yards and two touchdowns, but TCU still overpowered the Mountaineers. In overtime, Brandon Carter threw a touchdown pass to Corey Fuller to pull TCU within one point of West Virginia. Head coach Gary Patterson decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion and Trevone Boykin’s pass to Josh Boyce gave TCU the win.

24 Oklahoma State (5-3, 3-2 Big 12) 30 @ 2 Kansas State (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) 44 – Kansas State was still able to defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys even though Collin Klein left the game due to an undisclosed injury. Klein threw for 245 yards and ran for 64 more before scoring his 50th career rushing touchdown in the third quarter to give Kansas State a 38-17 lead. Tyler Lockett also had a big game for the Wildcats with 75 yards on five receptions and an 100-yard kick return in the second quarter to put KSU up 24-10. Wes Lunt started for Oklahoma State, but left with an injury as well. Clint Chelf came in for the Cowboys and threw for 233 yards and one touchdown.

Kansas (1-8, 0-6 Big 12) 14 @ Baylor (4-4, 1-4 Big 12) 41 – It was a close game at halftime with the Bears leading the Jayhawks 20-14, but Baylor pulled away in the second half. Nick Florence threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns and Lache Seastrunk ran for 194 total yards as Baylor recorded their first conference win of the season. James Sims had another great game for the Jayhawks. He ran for 126 yards on 21 carries and had one touchdown. Sims has now rushed for 100-yards in five consecutive games.
