Texas Tech Upends Kansas 2-0 in Big 12 Tourney


The Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Tech Red Raiders faced off on Wednesday afternoon in a first round match-up. Texas Tech used to two second half goals to push past the Jayhawks, 2-0. Third-seeded Texas Tech improved to 15-4-2 on the year, while Kansas fell to 10-8-2 on the year. Texas Tech advanced to face Baylor who shut out Oklahoma on Wednesday, 3-0.

Janine Beckie scored the first goal of the match in the 52nd minute to give Texas Tech the lead. The final goal happened in the 82nd minute on a goal from Dawn Ward.

Kansas out-shot Texas Tech, 15-12 including 6-3 on goal. Yet, the Longhorns couldn’t get the ball past Red Raiders goalie Victoria Esson who made six saves. Courtney Dickerson led Kansas players with four shots, each of them on goal. Opportunities were abundant for Kansas, they just failed to capitalize on these chances. Dickerson and fellow freshman Ashley Williams had a number of chances in the final half, with each failing.

The NCAA tournament field is announced on Monday, Feb 5th.
