Kansas Football: Defense Continues to Hamper Baylor's Plans

The Baylor Bears at 3-4 on the season, 0-4 in conference have the ability to light up the scoreboard with Nick Florence behind center. What the team struggles with is a lack of a strong defense. The defense on average gives up 43 points per game, 122nd in the country. In the Bears four losses this season, the team has given up 205 points, including 7o to West Virginia and 56 to Texas. Even in a win against Louisiana-Monroe, the team gave up 42 points.

Bryce Hager has a total of 70 tackles to led the Bears defense even without playing last week vs Iowa State. Ahmad Dixon has added 67 tackles, good for second best on the squad. Defensive end Terrence Lloyd leds the team with two sacks and linebacker Eddie Lackey has accumulated seven tackles for loss on the season, best on team.

The Bears don’t force that many turnovers, just 12 on the year, seven interceptions and five recovered fumbles. Dixon and Lackey are among seven different Bears to have an interception. The team struggles with teams who are pass heavy and can spread out the offense. For instance, Geno Smith of West Virginia passed for 656 yards in the Mountaineers win on Baylor.  Slim improvements have been made since this game, as Cyclones quarterback Steele Jantz passed for 381 yards and five touchdowns last week.
