The Kansas Jayhawks womens soccer team will meet Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 conference tournament, beginning Wednesday. The sixth-seeded Jayhawks face the third-seeded Red Raiders at 2:00 p.m. central time in San Antonio, Texas.
Texas Tech won the teams match-up this season, 3-1. Kansas at 10-7-2 on the season, got back on a track last Sunday with a huge win over Northern Colorado, 5-0. The win marked the tenth time in 14 seasons, Kansas has 10 wins for head coach Mark Francis. Texas Tech is 14-4-2 on the year, and 5-2 in conference. Freshman forward Janine Beckie leads the Red Raiders with 11 goals on the season. The team boasts three or more players who have totaled five or more goals this year.Texas Tech is known for great defense this season, only giving up 0.95 goals per game on average.
Jayhawks senior player Whitney Berry made the Big 12 conference first team, while Carolina Kastor and Jamie Fletcher made the conference second team. Freshman Ashley Williams was named to the conference newcomer team.
