Big 12 Power Rankings: Texas Tech and Texas Move Up, West Virginia Falls to #5

Here is the Through the Phog Big 12 Power Rankings, a poll that accumulates our staff’s thoughts on the best through the worst in the conference. Teams in first place get 9 points, second place receive 8 points, and so on.

This poll follows this weekend of college football.

  1. Kansas State (7-0, 4-0) – 18 points (2)
    The Wildcats got an impressive win on the road against West Virginia. They forced Geno Smith to throw two interceptions and moved up to #3 in the BCS Rankings.
  2. Oklahoma (5-1, 3-1) – 16 points
    Oklahoma dominated Kansas this past weekend. They scored twice on special teams and Landry Jones had three passing touchdowns in the game.
  3. Texas Tech (6-1, 3-1) – 14 points
    Texas Tech needed three overtimes, but still defeated TCU. Seth Doege threw for  318 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Their next game will be on the road against the Kansas State Wildcats.
  4. Texas (5-2, 2-2) – 11 points
    Texas got a big game out of Joe Bergeron in their win over Baylor this weekend. Bergeron scored five touchdowns in the 56-50 win over the Bears.
  5. West Virginia (5-2, 2-2) – 10 points
    West Virginia lost their second straight conference game. Geno Smith threw two interceptions in the 55-14 loss to Kansas State.
  6. Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1) – 8 points
    Oklahoma State avoided a loss at home to Iowa State. Joesph Randle had a bounce back week as he ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
  7. TCU (5-2, 2-2) – 7 points
    The Horned Frogs lost a tough game in three overtimes to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Depsite losing, Trevone Boykin threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions.
  8. Iowa State (4-3, 1-3) – 4 points
    The Cyclones lost to the Oklahoma State Cowboys this week. ISU will face off against Baylor next week.
  9. Baylor (3-3, 0-3) – 2 points
    Baylor could not outlast the Longhorns in their 56-50 loss this weekend. Nick Florence threw for 352 yards and two touchdowns, but the Bears still fell in 0-3 in the Big 12.
  10. Kansas(1-6, 0-4) – 0 points
    Michael Cummings finally got the start, but Kansas still lost. The Jayhawks did not look good at all in their game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Their only score cam on a James Sims run in the fourth quarter. Their next Big 12 opponent is the Texas Longhorns.
