Kansas Basketball: Jayhawks Ranked 7th in Preseason Coaches Poll

The Kansas Jayhawks are ranked seventh in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll. This marks the 21st time in the 24 year history of the poll, that Kansas has been ranked in the preseason top 25.

Head coach Tom Crean’s Indiana Hoosiers are ranked number one, bringing in 21 first place votes. Louisville and Kentucky are two and three, with both teams bringing in five first place votes. Rounding out the top five are Big 10 schools Ohio State and Michigan.

Joining the Jayhawks as the only Big 12 conference schools in the first rankings are Baylor at 18 and Texas coming in at 25. North Carolina State is ranked sixth, Duke, Syracuse and Florida round out the top 10. Arizona, North Carolina, UCLA, Michigan State, and Creighton are numbers 11-15, with Memphis being ranked 16th.

New SEC school Missouri is ranked 17th, UNLV, and San Diego State round out the top 20. Big 10 school Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Notre Dame, and Florida State are ranked 21-24, with Texas finishing the poll.

The non-conference schedule begins on Nov. 9th for Kansas as SE Missouri State comes for a visit. The Big 12 conference schedule begins on Jan. 9th as Iowa State and head coach Fred Hoiberg come to town.
