The biggest question mark for Kansas this year has been Dayne Crist. There were big expectations for him at the beginning of the season because of his success at Notre Dame and his returning to play for Charlie Weis.
So far this season, Crist has been mostly terrible. He has thrown for 952 yards, three touchdowns, and seven interceptions. There have been times were he looked good. For example, he played very well in the first half of the game against Kansas State. On the other hand, there have been times where Crist has looked absolutely terrible.
Because of his play, the question will start to get louder and louder.
Should Kansas bench Dayne Crist for either Michael Cummings or Blake Jablonski?
George: Kansas needs to do something with Crist. He has gotten lots of chances so far this year. I would be weary to give the ball to Cummings too early though. Right now, their chances on the season for any type of a winning record is looking bleak. Even improving upon last season’s mark is a stretch with Crist at the helm.
Ricky: Give the ball to Cummings and give the ball to him NOW! In my mind, Crist is done! The most important thing for a quarterback is to win games by getting into the endzone (duh!). What do I mean by that?
The one thing that Crist has not done this year is score. So far in five games, he has only thrown three touchdowns. On the other hand, he has throw seven interceptions. I say you need to pull the plug on him because of this fact alone. I know Kansas says they want to run the ball more, but you cannot run the ball effectively with a good rushing attacking. For example, take a look at Oregon. Kenjon Barner runs the ball well and opens the game up for Marcus Mariota.
I say give the ball to Cummings over Jablonski because Cummings got more time at the end of the KSU game. Despite this, I would be happy with either of these quarterback in instead of Crist. Kansas will be better with either Cummings or Jablonski because there is no pressure on them. If they mess up, who cares because they are not expected to be great (just like the Oakland A’s in the MLB playoffs). If Crist messes up, he did not live up to exceptions.
