If there is any player on the Kansas Jayhawks that is taking the most heat, it’s Dayne Crist. Crist has not played well this season. In the four games he has played in, Crist has thrown for 763 yards and has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 1:2 (two touchdowns and four interceptions).
There is no doubts that Crist will be the starting quarterback for the Jayhawks this week. In order to silence the critics, he will need to do two things. First, he will need to put points up on the board for the Jayhawks. Second, he will need to show that he has it in him to lead this team to a victory. Something that Kansas fans have not seen from Crist this season.
However, the question is “Can he do what is needed to silence his critics?”
George: Crist’s critics will grow louder. Kansas needs a great rushing effort to stay in this game, as I am betting they are going to pressure Crist into another bad game. Crist came to Kansas with so much promise and from being a previous part of Coach Weis’s system the learning curve shouldn’t be so much.
Ricky: In my opinion, Crist will never silence his critics. I say this because I do not think that he is a good enough quarterback to compete with the Big 12. The biggest thing that concerns me about him goes back to the final drive of the NIU game. He looked flustered and he looked like a quarterback that was not ready to lead a football team in a moment like that. Am I hoping Crist suddenly changes overnight so the Jayhawks can be successful? Yes. Until that happens, Kansas will need to lean on the rushing game and hope the defense can get their job done to keep Kansas in games.
