The Kansas Jayhawks made a statement on Wednesday night with a huge upset of Iowa State. The Cyclones were ranked #19 going into the match against the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks were also looking for their third straight win.
Kansas defeated Iowa State in five sets to win the match. The shocking thing about it was that the Jayhawks jumped out to a two set lead after the first two sets, but let the Cyclones come back to force a fifth set. This is the second time in three straight matches that the Jayhawks have let this happen.
Kansas got great performances from a lot of their players on Wednesday night. On the offense for the Jayhawks, they got nice performances from redshirt junior middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc, sophomore outside hitter Sara McClinton, redshirt junior Catherine Carmichael, and freshman outside hitter Tiana Dockery. All of these players combined for a total 55 kills.
It was a big game for Dockery overall because she had her second career double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs.
The Jayhawks also got nice performances out of junior setter Erin McNorton and junior libero Brianne Riley. McNorton finished the match with 53 assists and 16 digs (fourth double-double of the season). While on the other hand, Riley had a total of 24 digs on the match to help Kansas defensively.
The next game for the Kansas Jayhawks will be on October 6th as they host the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Mountaineers are currently 8-8 overall and 0-3 in the Big 12.
