Big 12/ Pac-12 In Preliminary Talks about Bowl Game

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said on Thursday how his conference and the Big 12 are in early talks about adding a seventh bowl. The two conferences would have their best team match one from a group of five conferences including the Big East.

The champion from the two conferences would match wits against the best from the Big East, Conference USA, Mid-American, Sun Belt and Mountain West in one of the semifinals of the new four-team playoff beginning in 2014.

The deal would be similar to the one, the Big 10 and SEC are working on which would pit the best of these two conferences against Notre Dame or the champion from the ACC in the other semifinal.

If the Rose Bowl does host a semifinal the Pac-12 or a replacement team would go to the Rose Bowl. In those years the traditional Big 10-Pac-12 matchup then the Big 12 conference would send a team.

New Big East commissioner is the lightning rod for the addition of another bowl game. Mike Aresco, the conference’s commissioner wants to make sure his conference has a say in the national title race.
