Big 12 Football Picks: Week Five

Everyone loves talking about the biggest stories of the week, but the best part about football is when people get to brag about their football predictions.

The staff at Through the Phog has decided to tackle the entire Big 12 conference all season long, taking a look at each game with some quick thoughts. We welcome anyone else’s take on the week and give your predictions below, or call out some games we may take for granted.

This week there were no changes in the standings between George Pike and Ricky Widmer. This was because the guys split in decisions between the Kansas/NIU game and the KSU/OU game.

Here are the standings:

  1. George – 17-4
  2. Ricky – 16-5

(All times are Eastern Standard Time)

12:00 p.m. – (25) Baylor @ (9) West Virginia - TV: FX

George: WVU | Ricky: WVU

George: West Virginia tops Baylor behind the big arm of Geno Smith. The Mountaineers are stacked on offense while Baylor continues to just sneak by like last weeks game vs University of Lousiana Monroe. The Bears have a talented group of offensive players, but no defense. West Virginia dominates.

7:00 p.m. – Texas Tech @ Iowa State - TV: FCS

George: ISU | Ricky: TTU

Ricky: Seth Doege had a big game in the 49-0 win over New Mexico with six touchdowns on the night. I expect Doege and the Red Raiders to come out swinging against the Cyclones. This will not be as close of a game as the ISU/Iowa game by any means.

7:00 p.m. – (15) TCU @ SMU - TV: FSN

George: TCU | Ricky: TCU

George: TCU whips SMU with a steady attack of quarterback Casey Pachall. The Horned Frogs finally put together a whole game and continue their winning streak, the nations longest winning streak at 11 games now.

7:50 p.m. – (12) Texas @ Oklahoma State – TV: FOX

George: Texas | Ricky: OSU

Ricky: I expect a big game out of the freshman, J.W. Walsh for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. OSU has yet to say if Wes Lunt will start in the game and I’m guessing he will not start. Walsh has been a great quarterback for the Cowboys and expect him to knock the Longhorns down a few pegs.
