The seventh-ranked women’s soccer team in the nation came to Lawrence, Kansas on Friday night and lost. The Kansas women’s soccer team in their Big 12 opener knocked off Oklahoma State, 2-1. Kansas improved to 7-2-1, while Oklahoma State dropped to 9-2.
Kansas freshman forward Courtney Dickerson kicked off the scoring with a goal less then three minutes into the match. Nobody scored again until the 68th minute of the match when Oklahoma State’s forward Megan Marchesmo tied the match at 1. Less then a minute later, Kansas midfielder Whitney Berry drilled home the winning goal, giving the Jayhawks the win.
For the match, Oklahoma State had 14 shots, including six of these on goal. Kansas had 18 shots, including five on goal. Berry led the charge with four shots, two of which were on goal.
Kansas travels to Waco, Texas next Friday for a match-up with Baylor. The Jayhawks then face TCU, two days later. Oklahoma State looks to rebound and get back on the right track when they face conference newcomer West Virginia on Sunday in Morgantown, West Virginia.
