Kansas finishes their non-conference schedule in football on Saturday when they travel to face Northern Illinois of the Mid-American Conference. The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. central time and will be broadcast on ESPN 3.
The game is rematch from a meeting last season when Kansas defeated Northern Illinois, 45-42 as wide receiver DJ Beshears made a flying catch in the final minute for the deciding points.
The Huskies have a 2-1 record on the season, their only defeat coming in week one vs Iowa, 17-16. Northern Illinois have since rebounded to knock off Tennessee-Martin and Army in a shootout last week. Kansas after defeating South Dakota State in week one have last two straight to Rice and TCU.
New Jayhawks defensive coordinator Dave Campo has Kansas playing great defense. The team have forced 12 turnovers this year, good for tops in the Big 12 and tied for the nation lead with Mississippi State and Alabama. Senior safety Bradley McDougald is a big part of the unit’s success. He for the second time this season was cited by the College Football Performance Awards as a honorable mention for his game vs TCU. The safety made 12 tackles, nine of these solo and one sack for a loss of 12 yards. McDougald also forced two fumbles deep in the Jayhawks territory to prevent TCU from scoring. Defensive lineman Toben Operrum also was named honorable mention after forcing a fumble and tallying up three tackles.
The defense will be on the run vs Northern Illinois and quarterback Jordan Lynch. He has thrown for 610 yards, and rushed for 304 yards.
