Staff Roundtable: Does Kansas Need To Run To Win?

This week, we are loaded with four big Week 3 questions: will Kansas need their rushing game to be consistently strong if they want to win games, what do the Jayhawks need to improve this week before they play Northern Illinois, will the Horned Frogs be a contender in the Big 12 this season, and can Kansas State beat Oklahoma this week.

First, Through the Phog discusses the Kansas rushing attack and how important it is in the success of the Jayhawks moving forward or can the Jayhawks rely on the passing game.

Will the Jayhawks need their rush game to be consistently strong if they want to win games this season or can they rely on Dayne Crist and the passing game?

George: I believe that the rushing game does need to be strong for the Jayhawks to have success this season. Kansas returns James Sims this next week which should aide with the rushing game. The trio of Sims, Taylor Cox and Tony Pierson can help this team out.

Ricky: The rushing game will need to be the center part of the offense if the Jayhawks want to win this season. I am not a fan of Dayne Crist and I wasn’t a fan of his when he was at Notre Dame. When I was watching that game on Saturday, I did not like how Crist displayed himself. There was a nice play by the defense where they forced Casey Pachall to fumble the ball after TCU was driving down the field. On the next drive, Crist threw an interception to give the ball right back to the Horned Frogs. Rushing attack = success for the Jayhawks.

Each week, the staff at Through the Phog will react on the previous day’s games in Big 12 football and other news that happens in the conference. We are always welcoming of comments that you might have on the topics covered each week. Our current staff includes lead editor George Pike, along with staff writer, Ricky Widmer.
