Today, head coach Bill Self will be traveling to Chicago, Illinois to visit arguably the best recruit this year, Jabari Parker.
Jabari Parker is a small forward at Simeon High School (same high school that Derrick Rose attended) in Chicago. He is also ranked #1 on ESPN’s recruitment board. Many have even compared Parker to the likes of LeBron James.
Parker’s current list of teams he is interested in sits at ten teams. Kansas currently sits seventh on his list with the other teams including: Michigan State, BYU, DePaul, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Stanford.
Bill Self will not be the first head coach to visit Parker this offseason. On September 11th, Florida head coach Billy Donovan made the trip to Chicago to talk to Parker at his home. Other head coaches will be heading to Chicago as Tom Izzo will visit on September 20th for Michigan State and Mike Krzyzewski will visit on September 21st for Duke.
Even though Kansas is seventh on Parker’s list, Self might be able to bump the Jayhawks up on the list because he has had good luck with Chicago recruits in the past. He was the one to recruit Dee Brown to Illinois and Julian Wright and Sherron Collins to Kansas.
Also, many Chicago recruits are being crippled by the current teacher strikes. Because of the strikes, coaches cannot visit recruits at their respective schools or watch open gyms in Chicago.
Jabari Parker will most likely not be affected by the strikes, but his teammate Jaylon Tate could see his stock fall if the strikes linger.
