TCU Despite Losing Key Defensive Players Remain Strong

The TCU Horned Frogs lost a number of players from last season after they were dismissed from the team. D.J. Yendry, Tanner Brock, Devin Johnson are just a few of these players. Even still the Horned Frogs are a strong unit.

Defensive end Stansly Maponga returns to anchor the line. Maponga recorded nine sacks and five forced fumbles last season. Linebacker Kenny Cain also returns. Cain picked up 72 tackles last year.

Head coach Gary Patterson’s crew led the country in defense from 2008-2010, yet had some issues last season. Even still, the crew is very deep and skilled at key positions. Just look at safety Elisha Olabode who made one interception last week, which he took back for a touchdown putting TCU up 21-0 in the second quarter. By getting one more pick, Olabode will have already topped all returning players.

The team dominated Grambling State last week, 56-0. Even still this game is not a good barometer of what type of defense this season’s version will be. Facing Kansas and quarterback Dayne Crist will show us how good these Horned Frogs are this year.
