Week 1 brought us some interesting stories to talk about in the Big 12. Oklahoma State steamrolled over Savannah State, Texas struggled against Wyoming, Oklahoma struggled against UTEP, and Kansas defeated South Dakota State.
Everyone loves talking about the biggest stories of the week, but the best part about football is when people get to brag about their football predictions.
The staff at Through the Phog has decided to tackle the entire Big 12 conference all season long, taking a look at each game with some quick thoughts. We welcome anyone else’s take on the week and give your predictions below, or call out some games we may take for granted.
Week 2 will feature a civil war in Iowa, the debut of the TCU Horned Frogs, and a big match-up between Kansas State and Miami. We will also see if the struggles of the Longhorns and Sooners were just Week 1 flukes or major problems that will need to be addressed.
12:00 p.m. – Miami (FL) @ Kansas State – FX
George: KSU | Ricky: Miami
The Wildcats might have their hands full in their Week 2 game against Miami (FL). KSU came out to a sluggish start last week and will need to be on their game to slow down Miami’s running back, Duke Johnson.
3:30 p.m. – Iowa State @ Iowa - Big Ten Network
George: Iowa | Ricky: Iowa State
The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series continues during Week 2. The Hawkeyes are coming off a close game at Soldier Field against Northern Illinois while the Cyclones are coming off a big win against Tulsa.
3:30 p.m. – Rice @ Kansas -Fox Sports Network
George: KU| Ricky: KU
The staff agrees that this game should be an easy game for the Jayhawks. The Rice Owls are not that great of a team and Kansas should be able to avoid an upset.
7:00 p.m. – Florida A&M @ Oklahoma -Fox (Pay-Per-View)
George: OU| Ricky: OU
Oklahoma did not come out strong against UTEP in Week 1, but Florida A&M should not be a hard opponent for the Sooners. Oklahoma should not struggle at all.
7:00 p.m. – Texas Tech @ Texas State - ESPN3
George: Texas Tech | Ricky: Texas State
The staff is split on the game between the Bobcats and the Red Raiders. Texas State is coming off a big road win against Houston. Ricky thinks the Bobcats could be a shock for Texas Tech, but George thinks that Texas Tech has nothing to worry about.
7:00 p.m. – Grambling State @ TCU -Fox Sports Southwest/Frog Vision
George: TCU | Ricky: TCU
TCU opens its first season as being a part of the Big 12 in Week 2. Grambling State should not be a problem for the Horned Frogs and an upset will most likely not happen.
8:00 p.m. – New Mexico @ Texas - Longhorn Network
George: Texas | Ricky: Texas
Just like the Sooners, the Longhorns started slow against Wyoming. New Mexico will be a team that will either expose the Longhorns’ problems or show that there is nothing wrong in Austin.
10:30 p.m. – Oklahoma State @ Arizona - Pac-12 Network
George: OSU | Ricky: OSU
Rich Rodriguez started off his career at Arizona with a win last week. However, Week 2 could be a little harder for the Wildcats. The Cowboys are capable of putting up 84 points on a team. Just ask the Tigers…
