It was a big weekend for Kansas volleyball as the Jayhawks swept their way to a Kansas Volleyball Invitational Title. Kansas started on Friday beating Sam Houston State (3-0) and Tulsa (3-1). They finish their three match sweep with a 3-1 win over Arkansas State as they improved their overall record to 5-1.
The MVP of the Kansas Volleyball Invitational was awarded to Kansas’ junior middle blocker, Caroline Jarmoc. During the tournament, Jarmoc tied her career high for kill (16) twice and was in on nine block for the Jayhawks against Arkansas State. Jarmoc proved that the Jayhawks will be a tough opponent to beat because of her play on both offense and defense.
According to kuathletics.com, head coach Ray Bechard had this to say about Jarmoc’s play this past weekend…
“She continues to pick it up on defense and was changing the game with her block, she also created opportunities for us with her serve.”
However, Jarmoc was not the only Jayhawk to show up this weekend. Kansas also had sophomore Sara McClinton and junior Erin McNorton named to the All-Tournament team. McClinton came up huge in the finale against Arkansas State as she finished will 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
On the other hand, McNorton had a great tournament overall. She finished with 136 total assists. She lead the team in assists (42) on Saturday and also recorded a career high 57 assists on Friday against Tulsa.
Arkansas State showed to be the biggest challenge for the Jayhawks this past weekend. The Red Wolves were the only team all weekend to take one set away from the Jayhawks. They won the second set 30-28 and tied the match at one set a piece, but lost the next two sets as Kansas took the tournament title.
The next match for the Jayhawks will be on September 4th against UMKC.
