Kansas Football: News and Notes

The Kansas Jayhawks are set to kick off their 2012 football season tomorrow evening with a 6 p.m. kickoff in Lawrence vs South Dakota State. The game will be broadcast live on the Jayhawk IMG Network.

These two teams faced off once before, in 1947 when Kansas defeated South Dakota State, 86-6. The Jackrabbits are looking for a little revenge this time around.
South Dakota State from the Division 1-AA is picked to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. They last played a Big 12 school in 2008, when South Dakota State fell to Iowa State, 44-17.

Kansas is opening the season for the tenth straight season at home. They have posted a 7-2 mark during this stretch. Kansas has an all-time record of 572-569 with 58 ties. Kansas has won 24 of their last 26 non-conference home games stretching back to 2003. The Jayhawks have a 3-1 record from four previous games played on Sept. 1st. The only loss came in 1990 vs Virginia.

In other news, the Jayhawks announced future non-conference opponents. Kansas will face Duke (2014), Rutgers(2015), Memphis (2016), Ohio (2017), and Central Michigan (2018) on the road in upcoming seasons. For home games, Kansas faces Southeast Missouri (2014), Central Michigan (2014, 2017),  Memphis (2015), Ohio (2016), Rutgers (2017).
