The Kansas Jayhawks in part two of their Europe trip defeated the Switzerland National Team, 83-79 on Wednesday. Earlier on in the day, Kansas beat Switzerland 77-74. With the wins, Kansas head coach Bill Self improved to 9-0 in exhibition games on foreign soil. Kansas has won 41 straight exhibition games, including 27 straight under Self.
The game was close right from the start with each team not giving the other any wiggle room. Kansas jumped to a 22-19 lead after the first quarter, but were down by one at halftime. Then, the score was knotted up at 60 heading into the fourth before a great finish. Switzerland forward Dave Rammsei
r knocked in a basket, handing the Swiss a slim 79-77 lead, before Kevin Young scored the Jayhawks final six points of the game.
Kansas freshman Andrew White led the way with 16 points in Wednesday’s encounter. Elijah Johnson and Young, each were in double figures. Johnson totaled 14 points and Young added 12, including six key points down the stretch with the game on the line. Jeff Withey scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in addition. Rammseir led all scorers with 22 points.
For the game, Kansas shot 52% from the field including 45% from three-point line, with Young knocking in two out of three attempts. Next up for the Jayhawks is a meeting with a group of professionals from France in Paris this weekend.
