Day seven of practice finished earlier today for the Kansas Jayhawks. Excitement is abound all over the field. A big reason why is new head coach Charlie Weis. Here is a look at Weis and his staff.
Weis has been coaching for 33 years. He most recently was an offensive coordinator at Kansas City of the NFL. Weis has also made stops at New England, and the New York Jets in the league. He was a head coach at Notre Dame after being an offensive coordinator in New England. While with the Patriots, Weis helped mold Tom Brady into a super bowl winning quarterback. Weis will also be the offensive coordinator.
Dave Campo: The defensive coordinator for the Jayhawks. Campo worked for Dallas from 1989 to 2002. He helped Dallas win three Super Bowl in 1992, 1993, and 1995.
Tim Grunhard: The offensive line coach for the Jayhawks. Grunhard played 11 seasons for Kansas City, starting in 164 straight games as an lineman. He last coached for Bishop Miege High School last season.
Clint Bowen: The special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach, Bowen graduated from Kansas in 1995. He was the defensive coordinator in 2008 for departed head coach Mark Mangino, though this lasted for one season. Bowen also has experience as the special teams coordinator in 2001.
Buddy Wyatt: The defensive line coach, Wyatt is a holdover from Turner Gil’s staff. This is his 22nd year of coaching.
Demontie Cross: Cross is the linebackers coach.
Ron Powlus: A former Notre Dame quarterback, Powlus takes over as the quarterbacks coach for Weis.
Reggie Mitchell: The running back coach, Mitchell is another holdover from Gil’s staff.
Rob Ianollo: Ianollo was the head coach at Akron during the 2010 and 2011 season’s. He will be the new wide receivers coach and director of recruiting.
Jeff Blasko: The tight ends coach, Blasko worked previously with Weis at Florida.
