Kansas was part of the second day of meetings on Tuesday in Dallas. Offensive lineman Tanner Hawkinson, quarterback Dayne Crist, defensive lineman Toben Opurum, and head coach Charlie Weis all were on hand.
Kansas was joined on Tuesday, by Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Big 12 newcomer West Virginia.
Weis aims to improve on last season’s 3-9 record from previous head coach Turner Gill. “You have to play the entire 60 minutes, to get a chance.” Weis said.
When asked about new quarterback Kansas quarterback Crist, who Weis coached previously at Notre Dame, the head coach had this to say: “He spent time with the offensive line, shows he is a very intelligent young man because he wanted to see if the line would give him an opportunity.”
Later on, Weis was asked about new defensive coordinator Dave Campo. The defensive coordinator has had previous stops in the NFL, including the Dallas Cowboys. ” Campo is a great teacher and is well respected by the players.”
Weis is optimistic about winning in Lawrence, something that is needed for a program searching for another bowl game appearance after consecutive spots in 2007, and 2008.
