Recruiting: Nebraska offers Peyton Newell

2014 Hiawatha, Kansas defensive line recruit Peyton Newell has received a flurry of major offers recently, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the most recent team to have offered him. They have always had a high amount of interest in the strong workout warrior, so this offer was coming around the corner and is unsurprising. It puts one of the top Big Ten programs right in the thick of the race for one of the top recruits in the state of Kansas in the 2014 class.

The Hiawatha High star is not rated by recruiting sites, but most fans believe that he is a three-star recruit. Peyton Newell is 6’3″ and weighs 270 pounds, and the star DL can run a 4.85 forty yard dash.

Newell’s game translates as a defensive end (SDE), tight end, or defensive tackle, with most people seeing his mix of strength and speed fitting best at strong-side end. He can utilize his strong run defense at that position as well, so it seems like an ideal fit.

The in-state DE has offers from Baylor, Illinois, Iowa, TCU, UCLA, and Nebraska. Newell has camped at Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

Peyton Newell has not been offered by either Kansas or Kansas State, but an offer from either in-state program is expected to come at some point for the 2014 recruit who can bench 320 and squat 495. He has a 4.49 shuttle time and a 32-inch vertical, which goes to show why he is on Schuman’s National Underclassmen Combine Ultimate 100; he’s a workout warrior with beastly strength and work ethic.
