The Memphis Tigers traveled down south to St. Paul’s in Louisiana, which is one of the top 200 high schools in the nation and a school known for producing top defensive players. Two recruits came away with offers, with one of them being linebacker Ed Duplessis.
The 6’2″, 200 pound outside linebacker from Covington Louisiana runs a 4.5 forty and is rated by 247Sports as a three-star recruit, while Scout.com rates him as a two-star.
Ed Duplessis has offers from McNeese State, Memphis, and North Texas, as well as interest from TCU, Georgia, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, LSU, and Tennessee. He can bench 275 and squat 500, and the 2013 LB has a rating of 83 from 247Sports.
The LB attended junior day at Georgia, and his first offer came from North Texas back in mid-March. Only ten days earlier, the third, was when Duplessis went to Georgia for junior day.
247Sports ranks Ed Duplessis as one of the top 75 OLBs in the nation, as well as the 40th best recruit in the state of Louisiana in the 2013 class. His teammate who was offered by Memphis, safety Jay Washington, is coincidentally ranked just one spot lower than him on the LA totem pole.
He is a bit under the radar as a recruit, but Duplessis- who has the same 247Sports rating as Washington- is a solid OLB capable of providing depth to a squad like Memphis. It will be interesting to gauge KU’s interest in the fast linebacker going forward, and here is some tape from Scout on him.
