Three-star defensive tackle Ben Hughes is one of the top 35 defensive tackle recruits in the nation, with Scout.com valuing the Waco, Texas native as a four-star recruit and the 25th best in the nation.
Hughes’s recruitment is starting to heat up, and he has just returned from a Baylor spring game; the team that is viewed as the favorite to land the talented DT. The fact that Ben Hughes is a Waco native is one of the reasons why Baylor is a favorite, but he will certainly be receiving more offers in the future.
247Sports has Baylor as one of the teams that has sent an offer to Hughes, whereas Scout and Rivals have him at two offers from Kansas and Tulsa.
Other teams interested in the talented, popular prospect are TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, SMU, South Carolina, UCLA, and Wisconsin.
Ben Hughes, who stands at 6’3″ and weighs 310 pounds, was named a first-team All-District player last season. He has the perfect build, and he plays with as much power as his appearance suggests. Hughes as the total package to be successful in most schemes at the collegiate level, and he has the upside to be an impact player.
Although he is more raw than some of the other defensive tackles ranked in the top 30, Ben Hughes will show more scouts why he is a four-star recruit and not a three-star. He may not be as good as Isaiah Golden, but Hughes is more than an afterthought among DTs in the nation. The schools in Texas already recognize this blossoming talent, as have teams like Kansas and Tulsa that have offered him.
