Former Jayhawks in the MLB

Tom Gorzelanny is the lone Kansas Jayhawk currently in the MLB.

Here is a weekly look at former Kansas Jayhawks in Major League Baseball.

Only one player is currently in the big leagues. This is Tom Gorzelanny, starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals. Gorzelanny began his time as a professional back in 2005. After moving up the ranks of minor leagues, Gorzelanny started in the major leagues in 2007 at Pittsburgh. He has since pitched for Chicago and now Washington. Gorzelanny has a career record of 40-43. He has yet to pitch this season.

Two other Jayhawks are in the Triple AAA’s and I will keep a watchful eye on them, as they pursue ventures in the MLB. Travis Metcalf and Mike Zagurski are currently fighting for a way to make the big leagues. Metcalf has tasted some big league action back in 2008 with Texas. He currently plays third baseman for the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League. Zagurski is on assignment with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He has pitched in one game in major league back in 2007 for Philadelphia.
